Calaka x Sam Rodriguez This piece is part of his 'Type Faces' series where he incorporates typography and portraiture. He created the original painting based on some talks we had around the intersection of time periods and new mixtures in regards to native american identity. He then blended ancient visual elements with contemporary fashion.  Many of us with Mexican descent, are mixed with native roots, some more than others and some have been involved with the culture while others are still trying to find out how to begin. We use various labels to try and identify or make sense of who we are.  Representing both Oaxaca & San Jose, MexTape is a Chicano artist that creates Music. We have known this brother for a while now, and since he is also from San Jose, and loves to Represent The People, we thought it was a good start to our collab series. Niltze/Tialli/Pialli/Hello, We are excited to announce our first establishing release for Calaka Wear. This brand has been a dream in the works for a few years now with a couple of shirt designs already released and out there. The reason that we exist is to bring some more awareness to the people and create something that can inspire us to represent where we come from everyday.  As indigenous people of the western hemisphere we face challenges dealing with history, language, identity, poverty, having a voice, & cultural genocide.
